PREP User Manual
PREP is a comprehensive cinematic pre-production operating system designed to streamline the filmmaking process. From script breakdown to shoot scheduling, PREP gives filmmakers the tools to organize, plan, and execute every project with confidence.
Getting Started
Creating an Account
- Visit the PREP landing page at prepapp.name.ng
- Click "Start Creating" to register
- Enter your email address and a secure password
- Verify your email if prompted
- Complete your profile add your name, role, and photo
Logging In
- From the landing page, click "Log In"
- Enter your registered email and password
- You'll be taken directly to your dashboard
Dark Mode
Toggle dark mode from the dashboard menu (top-right ? button) or from Settings. Your preference is saved automatically.
Dashboard Overview
The dashboard is your command center. Everything starts here.
What You'll Find
- Your profile and greeting at the top
- Story & Creative tab Screenplay, Script Breakdown, Storyboarding, AI Scribe, Moodboard, AV Script
- Production Planning tab Shotlist, Shoot Schedule, Locations, Call Sheet, Strip Board, Cast & Crew, Budget, Costumes
- Your projects list below the feature tabs
Navigation
Use the bottom navigation bar (or sidebar on desktop) to move between Home, Projects, Contacts, Media, and More.
Project Management
Creating a Project
- Tap the + button on the dashboard or go to the Projects page
- Enter a project name and optional details (client, genre, director)
- Choose to upload a script or start with AI Scribe
- Tap Continue your project is ready
Managing Projects
- Pin Pin important projects to the top of your list
- Edit Rename or update project details
- Share Invite collaborators with viewer or editor access
- Archive Hide completed projects without deleting them
- Delete Permanently remove a project (cannot be undone)
Searching Projects
Use the search bar on the Projects page to filter by name instantly.
Script Breakdown
AI-powered analysis of your screenplay to extract every production element automatically.
How to Use
- Select Script Breakdown from the dashboard
- Choose or create a project
- Paste your script text or upload a .txt or .fountain file
- Tap Generate Breakdown
- Review and edit the extracted elements across categories:
- Cast, Props, Locations, Vehicles, Costumes
- Hair & Makeup, SFX, Stunts, Set & Art, Sound
Tips
- Use standard screenplay format (Fountain or Final Draft style) for best AI accuracy
- Always review AI-generated results they're a starting point, not final
- Use category filters to focus on specific departments
- Export to PDF or CSV to share with your team
Storyboarding
Visualize your film scene by scene before a single frame is shot.
Creating Storyboards
- Open Storyboarding from the dashboard
- Select a project
- Add scenes and upload reference or sketch images for each panel
- Add shot descriptions, camera notes, and action details per panel
- Reorder panels by dragging to restructure your visual narrative
Shotlist
Build a detailed, organized list of every shot in your production.
Creating a Shotlist
- Go to Shotlist from the dashboard
- Select a project
- Add shots with details including:
- Scene number and shot number
- Shot type (wide, medium, close-up, etc.)
- Camera angle and movement
- Lens, equipment notes
- Cast and props required
- Estimated duration
- Mark shots as completed during production
Shoot Schedule
Plan every day of your production with precision.
Building a Schedule
- Open Shoot Schedule from the dashboard
- Select a project
- Create shoot days and assign dates
- Drag scenes from your breakdown into each shoot day
- Add call times, locations, and crew notes per day
- Export the schedule as a PDF for distribution
AI Scribe
Your AI-powered writing and script development assistant.
What AI Scribe Can Do
- Script Generation Generate full screenplay drafts from a premise
- Scene Writing Write or rewrite individual scenes
- Dialogue Polish Improve character voice and dialogue flow
- Story Analysis Get structural feedback on your script
- Character Development Build consistent character profiles
- Read Aloud Listen to your script read back to you
Tips
- Be specific in your prompts for better results
- Use the Stop button to halt generation at any time
- Always review and edit AI output before using it in production
Contacts
Manage your entire production network in one place.
- Add cast, crew, vendors, and collaborators
- Filter contacts by department or role
- Call or email directly from a contact card
- Invite contacts to join PREP and collaborate on projects
- Export your contact list as a CSV
Settings & Profile
Profile
- Update your name, role, bio, and location
- Upload a profile photo
- Share your public profile link with collaborators
App Settings
- Toggle Dark / Light mode
- Manage notification preferences
- Change your password or email
- Log out of your account
Best Practices
- Complete your profile Collaborators can find and trust you more easily
- Use clear project names Include the project type and year (e.g. "Short Film Echoes 2025")
- Review AI outputs AI is a tool, not a replacement for your creative judgment
- Export regularly Keep PDF copies of breakdowns and schedules as backups
- Collaborate early Share projects with your team before production begins
- Use keyboard shortcuts Access them from the More menu to speed up your workflow
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
- Can't log in Check your internet connection and verify your credentials. Use "Forgot Password" if needed
- Script upload fails Ensure the file is .txt or .fountain format and under 5MB
- Slow performance Clear your browser cache or try a different browser (Chrome or Safari recommended)
- AI not responding Check your connection and try refreshing. If the issue persists, contact support
- Projects not loading Log out and back in to refresh your session
